BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS

Relationship is the core of our social life. As social beings, we interact with each other. Either as individuals or groups/organisations. No one operates in isolation. We all have different relationships with each other. In business too, this is not different.

School leadership or school business generally, RELATIONSHIP is key.

It is the core duty of all stakeholders. School leaders in particular must learn how to build relationships.

Relationships matter – and it is reflected in how you treat people. People should not be seen or treated as objects. They matter and they must be treated right. Every single member of a school community matters a lot to the success or otherwise of the school’s goals.

Good leaders ensure that everyone has a voice; no one should be held back from bringing forth their ideas. Teachers have ideas too and you must ensure you listen to them, support them and walk with them all through the way; till they become successful. When you build positive relationship with teachers and they become successful, students also become successful and in extension, the whole school community will experience growth.

Build positive relationship with parents. You must learn how to manage people. The relationship cycle must cut across each and every member of your school community.

Do not forget – you are partners. And as partners, everyone must be respected and given a chance to perform his/her duties to the best of their abilities. As an admininstrator, you must build strong teams where everyone works together towards achieving the set goals.

You become an effective leader when you build relationships across board. Teachers and learners need school leaders who can build a strong unified school community. Work towards eradicating chaos, tension and negative energy around your school community. It takes time but you can build true lasting relationships if you become intentional about improving your school.
